From first sketch to final pixel – by hand.
The Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR is one of the most ambitious concept cars ever created — a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and the world of James Cameron’s Avatar. Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2020, the Vision AVTR was conceived as a radical vision of future mobility: a vehicle that dissolves the boundary between human, machine, and nature. The result is a showcar that feels less like an automobile and more like a living organism.
The Vision AVTR was built on collaboration — designers, creative directors and visionaries working across disciplines and continents. I joined from the beginning, having won an internal competition that placed me as lead designer on the exterior concept development.
My role was to translate the philosophy of Avatar into surfaces, proportions and details that felt simultaneously mechanical and alive — working closely with concept designers Ben Procter and Dylan Cole, and exchanging ideas directly with James Cameron and Jon Landau.
