nasa's perseverance rover 3D model
animation
On the Nasa Webpage I stumbled across the highly detailed 3D rover. To learn more about it, I just downloaded it, then taught myself how to rig and animate it in blender.
I had the stupid idea of him nodding to a beat. That I could accomplish with my beginner animation skills. Where is a beat, there is a dancer… As a star wars nerd, it was clear who to put into the scene as complementary contrast. I love the juxtaposition of the rover and the stormtropper. Both from different universes, yet similar … somehow.
About the process
2D and 3D
First I started off with writing down some ideas I had in mind. With quick doodles on what to show and how to stage it correctly in terms of perpsective, camera lenses and composition I could have a better picture on how the animation gonna be like.
So jumping into storyboarding and Previs was a fun experience that contributed to the whole continuity and timing.
